What is Domain Authority ?

Domain Authority is provided by SEOMOZ, this metric is at domain level, it's meaning that each url/page under one domain will return same value, unlike page authority which is url metric. Both of metrics use logarithmic value from 0 to 100 - meaning that more difficult to get value 30 from 20, like from 10 to 20. Higher value of domain authority meaning better ranked website of this domain in compare to others with same content, backlinks and other metric. Domain Authority is a score that indicates the likelihood that pages on a website will rank in search engines. It’s measured on a scale from 1 to 100. It is created by MOZ, but it’s an approximation of the Google “PageRank” score (from 1 to 10) which measured a website’s credibility. There isn’t a way to see Google’s PageRank scores anymore, so many search marketers use Domain Authority as a proxy.

How To Increase Your Domain Authority?

1. Optimize your internal links.

While it's impossible to directly influence every aspect of your SEO, internal linking in one area over which you have complete control. Effective internal linking can not only provide a better user experience, it can boost rankings and help you manage link equity across your entire domain. Some strategies you can use to improve your internal linking include:

  • Linking to relevant content users will be helpful in learning about the topic at hand.
  • Using natural anchor text that makes sense to users.
  • Not using artificial anchor text in an effort to con the search engines.
  • Linking from high PA (Page Authority) pages to lower PA pages to pass on link juice.
  • Linking from high-traffic pages to high-value pages to increase conversions.

2. Create tons of link-worthy content

Maybe it goes without saying, but creating amazing content is key to increasing Domain Authority and rankings. Without content, other sites will have no reason to link to yours, and you'll never have a hope of increasing your rankings. When creating new content, think about what other business owners, bloggers and journalists typically link out to. These might include evergreen posts like how-to's, tutorials, "top 10" posts or more timely content like original research or statistics. Link-worthy content will also need to be well-written and of high quality. This means keeping it free of typos and grammatical errors, and includes a fresh perspective on the topic and writing content that's long enough to do justice to your topic and to rank well in Search. This optimal word count will generally be around 1,200 words+ to 1,600 words+, depending on who you ask.

3. Pursue high-quality links.

Link building is still a necessary part of a solid SEO strategy. Some business owners assume that having excellent, well-optimized content is enough, however intentional link building is still a necessity. Some key ways you can earn high-quality links to your site include:

  • Ensuring your local business is listed in directories like Google My Business, Yelp and TripAdvisor.
  • Regularly guest posting on popular sites in your niche. This is beneficial for SEO, for getting referral traffic, and for establishing yourself as an expert in your field.
  • Finding broken links on other sites and requesting that those links be replaced with ones to your site.
  • Using a reverse image search tool to find occurrences of other sites using your images. Rather than asking them to remove the images, request that they include a link back to your site.

4. Run a link audit to eradicate bad links

Having authoritative inbound links won't mean a thing if you also have spammy or damaging links pointed to your site. Unfortunately, many business owners don't think about the power of these links until they're hit with a manual link penalty. This is why conducting regular link audits is so important. Start by collecting backlink data from a variety of tools, like Google Search Console, Ahrefs and Open Site Explorer, as no single tool will show you all the links back to your site. Look through the list to identify any spammy or unnatural-looking links: in particular, keep an eye out for site-wide links, links in foreign languages, links with suspicious anchor text, and links from sites that have no topical relevance to your own.
